Suggestions For Your Portrait Session

Aside from choosing Bettinger Photography, the clothing you wear is the single most important choice you must make when having a professional portrait made.

Wear Solid Colors
Solid colors are the best choice for a portrait. The clothes should not be the first thing you see in a portrait. Wearing solid colors will allow for a composition that displays the person in the portrait and not the clothes they are wearing.

Good Choice

Good style but not so
good for photography

Avoid Sleeveless Outfits
Sleeveless outfits make your arms look larger and heavier than they really are.
We recommend long sleeves. If you want a "summer" look than a short sleeve is better.

Great summer time outfit

A nice summer dress,
just not ideal for portraits

Avoid Patterns
Patterns in clothing are very distracting and take the attention off of the people in the portraits and puts the attention on the clothes that they are wearing.

This family is the perfect
example of how to dress

The patterns above can
be very distracting

Same Color Tones
A group should stay in the same color tone. This means all people should be in similar colors and all in the same color if at all possible.

Good color choice, keep it simple

All the different colors are distracting and make the picture very busy

Wear Colors to Compliment Your Skin Tone
For lighter skin tones avoid, red. For darker skin tones avoid yellow. For olive complexions avoid both yellow and red. All skin types avoid orange.
